Business fire claims increase

The association of British Insurers states that in 2005 fires cost British businesses £2m every day, excluding business interruption. The trend is on the increase. One business in every hundred can expect to have a fire this year. The association is urging businesses to have a sufficient and effective fire risk assessment carried out

 

Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

 

The new order coming into force on the 1st of October 2006, applies to all premises and workplaces with the exception of private dwellings, anything that floats, flies or runs on wheels and new building sites.

 

Requirements

  The Responsible person at any premise must have a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment carried out by a competent person. The definition of competent is where a person has had sufficient training and or knowledge and other qualities to carry out that role. Appropriate risk based fire training must be carried out on a regular basis, again by a competent person.
